Ukraine proposed a new agricultural export mechanism to the EU
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food has proposed a new mechanism for exporting Ukrainian agricultural products to its EU partners.
According to the new mechanism, deliveries will take place on schedule, Minister of Agrarian Policy Vitalii Koval said in an interview with Forbes.
The EU made this proposal after it became known that the EU does not plan to continue duty-free trade in its current form.
“The preferences were introduced in connection with the war, which is still ongoing. We are asking for their continuation, but EU countries need our predictability. Therefore, we have proposed an option under which we will export products on schedule, a certain amount per month,” he said.
According to Koval, there is a risk that the autonomous trade preferences regime will be extended and then canceled, so the main challenge for this year is to diversify exports.
“However, our agricultural products have a large import component from the EU: fuel, seeds, mineral fertilizers, crop protection products, and equipment. We have the right to be on the EU market, since we purchase a large share of production facilities there,” the minister added. As previously reported by USM, the Ukrainian agricultural sector set a second historical record in 2024 — $24.5 billion in foreign exchange earnings from agricultural exports.
