Ukraine and Moldova signed an agreement on the construction of a bridge across the Dnister

A new bridge will be built on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border. The Yampil bridge will become an alternative to the ferry crossing at the Yampil-Koseut border crossing.

The agreement on the construction of the Yampil Bridge was signed on Monday, June 12, by the Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov and the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova Lilia Dabiža.

“Today’s signing of the Agreement is a continuation of the agreements reached in 2021 by the Presidents of Ukraine and Moldova. The Russian Federation’s full-scale war in Ukraine made adjustments to the implementation of the project. But the critical need for the development of alternative logistics routes makes the Yampil bridge project without alternatives,” the Ministry said.

The Yampil bridge will become an alternative to the ferry crossing at the Yampil-Koseut border crossing, which has been out of service for several years. It will also become a key link of the transport corridor between Kyiv and Chisinau.

In addition, thanks to the bridge, Ukrainian exporters will have the shortest route from the center of Ukraine to the countries of Central and South-Eastern Europe, bypassing Transnistria, which is occupied by the Russians.

Also, the bridge will allow to unload the international crossing point “Mohyliv-Podilskyi – Otach”, through which almost the entire transport flow between Ukraine and Moldova passes.

As previously reported by USM, in May of this year the Cabinet of Ministers approved the draft Agreement with the Government of Moldova on the construction of a bridge over the Dniester River.

Certificate. The total length of the bridge is more than 1400 meters. The artificial structure will have 2 lanes of traffic with sidewalks on both sides. The bridge crossing over the Dniester involves the construction of two approaches: 1.6 km from the Ukrainian side and 5 km from the Moldovan side. The bridge was supposed to provide access to the Ukrainian road T-02–02 Mohyliv-Podilskyi — Yampil — Bershad — Uman and the Moldovan M-2.
