Ukraine studies US experience in port management

The Ukrainian-Estonian plan for the restoration of the port industry was also presented in Washington.
This was reported by the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine.
Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories Andriy Kashuba took part in the program “Strengthening the Port Management System”, organized with the support of the US Department of State.
Key meetings were held in Washington. In particular:
• The US Department of State discussed the development of port infrastructure as an element of national security, protection of supply chains and support for open international trade.
• The US Department of Transportation reviewed innovative approaches to intermodal logistics, the functioning of the Centers of Excellence for Shipping, and technological solutions for the modernization of maritime transportation.
• At Georgetown University, the principles of decentralization and division of powers in the field of critical infrastructure within the US federal system were studied.
• In the port of Baltimore, they visited the Sigirt Sea Terminal, where they learned about the practices of crisis response, resilience planning, and modernization of port infrastructure in conditions of high loads and geopolitical risks.
“Maritime and river infrastructure is not just logistics. It is the basis of economic stability and an element of national security. The United States is demonstrating an effective model where the state retains control over critical facilities, and investors are attracted through transparent concession mechanisms. We are already moving along this path – an example is the Chornomorsk port concession project,” said Andriy Kashuba.
During the meetings in Washington, he also presented the Ukrainian-Estonian plan for the restoration of the port industry – a strategic document that provides for a deep transformation of the management system, transparency, and efficiency.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Development and Trade team plans to use the experience gained during the visit to improve state policy in the field of port management.
