Ukrainian grain exports through Constanta decreased almost sixfold

Ukraine shipped 226,000 tonnes of grain through Romania’s Black Sea port of Constanta in the first two months of the year.
This is a significant decrease compared to 1.33 million tonnes in the same period in 2024, Baird Maritime reported, citing the port authority.
However, Constanta still remains the main alternative route for Ukrainian grain exports since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Overall grain exports through Constanta in January-February amounted to 2.55 million tonnes.
Romania is one of the largest grain exporters in the EU, and the port of Constanta also handles grain flows from landlocked countries, including Serbia, Hungary and Moldova.
Port data, which excludes volumes transiting through smaller Romanian ports and direct exports by rail and road, showed that Ukrainian grain exports via Constanta amounted to 6.23 million tons in 2024.
Since February 2022, Romania has helped export almost 29 million tons of Ukrainian grain via Constanta.
USM previously reported that the Romanian port of Constanta is modernizing its rail infrastructure.
