Ukrainian ports on the Danube increased cargo turnover by 3.5 times
In January-September, the Ukrainian ports of the Danube region increased their cargo turnover by 3.5 times, to more than 11 million tons, compared to the same period last year.
This was announced by the Deputy Chairman of the Shipping Administration, Viktor Vyshnyov, during a meeting of the working group of the Danube Commission.
“Since the beginning of the war, the кussian Navy has paralyzed commercial shipping in the Black Sea and Azov regions. The Danube shipping route became an alternative to sea commercial transportation. Further development of Danube logistics is an important component of Ukraine’s economic security. “Currently, the Danube ports have become the main waterway for agricultural exports, their throughput capacity is up to 1.5 million tons per month,” Vishnyov said.
He noted that the cargo turnover of the Danube ports for nine months amounted to more than 11 million tons, which is 3.5 times more than in the same period last year.
The members of the working group are also considering issues related to the improvement of shipping conditions on the Danube. According to Vyshnev, Ukraine, as a responsible party to the Belgrade Convention, even in the face of russian military aggression and destruction of critical infrastructure, keeps its sections of the Danube in navigable condition and performs all necessary work to ensure and improve shipping conditions.
