Ukrferry: Ukraine can become one of the ferry transportation hubs on the Black Sea

The shipping company Ukrferry has revealed what promising routes for ferries can take through Ukrainian ports.

This was discussed in the “Ukrferry” presentation at the Ukrainian Transport Forum 2025.

Ukraine has every opportunity to become one of the ferry hubs on the Black Sea. Ukrferry noted that they currently see at least three long-term, promising routes, two of which pass through Ukraine:

• Ukraine – Georgia;

• Ukraine – Turkey;

• Bulgaria – Georgia.

Despite this, there are a number of problematic issues. For example, the problem of the possibility of organizing rail-ferry transportation, which is associated with the withdrawal of Ukrzaliznytsia from a number of multilateral international treaties and technical agreements in which Russia participated.

In particular, it concerns the withdrawal of UZ from the multilateral agreement on information exchange and the absence in the databases of information about depot repairs of wagons that remained on the territory of Ukraine after the outbreak of hostilities. This led to the impossibility of movement of such wagons on the railway network of Transcaucasia and Central Asia.

“Ukrferry” noted that bilateral agreements with other railway administrations could solve the problem. But the signing and implementation of such agreements are necessary now, at the stage of preparation for the restoration of railway-ferry connections. Resolving these issues should be part of state policy, and not a business initiative, the company added.

Earlier, USM reported that “Ukrferry” is restoring the ferry connection Chornomorsk – Batumi.
