Unblocking Mykolaiv port will reduce agricultural export costs by 15%

Unblocking the port of Mykolaiv should add capacity to the Ukrainian maritime corridor.

Andrii Vadaturskyi, head of the agricultural holding “Nibulon”, told about this in an interview with LIGA.net.

According to him, the potential of the Mykolaiv port is transshipment of 15% of Ukraine’s agricultural exports.

“If Mykolaiv becomes operational, competition will appear, export costs will decrease – by another $10 per ton. Therefore, the entire agricultural sector will receive additional income from the profit of exporters, accordingly, this is also income to the state budget,” explained Andriy Vadaturskyi.

He also believes that an intermediate solution could be the removal of ships from Mykolaiv to the Danube. This will reduce export costs in the transportation process from Izmail to Romanian Constanta.

“Another step is the introduction of subsidies for the transportation of grain by Ukrzaliznytsia in the direction of the Danube ports. This will make it possible to level the competitive conditions with the ports of Odesa,” the head of Nibulon emphasized.

As a result, Andrii Vadaturskyi noted that the most effective step would be the unblocking of Mykolaiv port. Yes, farmers will feel the effect, as it will allow them to receive more for the grown crop.

USM previously reported that the UDS supports the proposal of agricultural producers, who appealed to the Cabinet of Ministers to create equal conditions for the ports of Odesa and the Danube.
