US court allows Russian oligarch’s superyacht to be auctioned

A court in New York has allowed the sale of the superyacht “Amadea”, which is associated with Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov.

This is reported by “Radio Svoboda”.

The yacht Amadea was arrested in April 2022 in Fiji at the request of the United States. In June 2022, the Supreme Court of Fiji ruled to hand over the yacht to the United States authorities.

The United States planned to sell the yacht and transfer the proceeds to Ukraine. But the confiscation process dragged on for almost three years, as the company that owns the vessel according to the documents appealed the arrest. A company representative claimed that the owner of the yacht is not the sanctioned Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov, but the former head of Rosneft, Eduard Khudainatov, who was not subject to US sanctions.

In turn, prosecutors called Khudainatov a “front person” for Kerimov and said that Kerimov’s niece paid a company controlled by Khudainatov €225 million ($243.7 million) in 2021.

In March 2025, a US court ruled that the superyacht “Amadea” does not belong to the former head of Rosneft.

Recall that in October 2023, the New York prosecutor’s office filed a lawsuit to confiscate the 106-meter superyacht “Amadea” worth more than $300 million.

It is also known that US citizens pay $600 thousand per month for the maintenance of the superyacht “Amadea”. As of the end of 2024, these costs had already reached $30 million.
