US seizes another sanctioned Russian tanker in the Caribbean Sea

The tanker Sagitta, which is part of the so-called “shadow fleet”, was detained as part of a US operation.

The US Southern Command reported this on the social network X.

On Tuesday, the US military, with the support of the Department of Homeland Security, detained the tanker Sagitta.

“The detention of another tanker that was operating in violation of President Trump’s quarantine for vessels under sanctions in the Caribbean demonstrates our determination to ensure that only oil is exported from Venezuela, the transportation of which is carried out properly and in accordance with the law,” the message says.

The GUR portal War&Sanctions notes that the tanker Sagitta transported Russian oil in circumvention of sanctions imposed by a number of countries. In particular, Ukraine, the UK, the US, Canada, the EU, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand.

It is also known that Sagitta flies the flag of Guyana and is involved in the export of Russian oil and petroleum products from Russian ports in the Baltic Sea and the Pacific region, mainly to China and India.

As a reminder, on January 16, the US seized the sixth tanker linked to Venezuela.
