US Senator: Europe should stop buying Russian oil through India

The United States has begun to openly fight schemes that allow Russian oil to enter the world market despite sanctions.

US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has warned European countries against buying Russian oil, which India imports from Russia at a discount and then resells on the world market. He wrote about this on the social network X.

“I am very grateful to my European friends who helped Ukraine. However, neither I nor anyone else got it out of hand that you are buying oil from India – oil that India originally bought from Russia. We are watching. This must stop immediately,” Graham said.

The senator, who is actively promoting new sanctions against Russia, called Trump’s decision to impose an additional 25% tariff on imports from India in response to its role in re-exporting Russian raw materials “revolutionary.”

“President Trump’s decision to go after countries that support Putin’s military machine by buying cheap Russian oil is a game-changer. These countries will soon pay a high and long-awaited price,” the official added.

In April, he introduced a bill to impose a 500% tariff on imports from countries that help fill the Russian budget, but the document has not yet been considered — the US Senate is on recess until September. At the same time, President Trump has decided to act on his own.

New US tariffs on Indian goods will take effect on August 27. Although it was initially planned to establish a 100% duty, the White House reduced the rate to 25%.

According to the senator, last year the largest buyers of Indian oil products among European countries were the Netherlands, Great Britain and France.

Also on the eve of the USM reported that the EU is preparing to launch a new price ceiling for Russian oil.
