UZ may change the tariff for cargo transportation to the port of Izmail, – Tkachev

The tariff for transporting goods by rail to the port of Izmail may be revised to improve competition between ports.
This was stated by the deputy director of the department of transportation technology and commercial work of the company Valeriy Tkachev during the Ukrainian Transport Forum 2025 on June 10, writes Rail.insider.
As the representative of UZ recalled, the company initiated the indexation of tariffs for transporting goods by rail back in December 2024. But so far, the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine has not made a final decision on changing the tariffs.
At the same time, two weeks ago, a round table was held in Odesa on supporting the port complex of Ukraine and improving the interaction of the railway and the port industry. During the event, the issue of equalizing tariffs for transporting goods by rail to different ports was discussed.
“Mechanisms have been developed to improve competition between ports. There are several options for correcting tariffs, in particular, introducing different coefficients, but this is a work in progress. We are waiting for the Ministry of Development to take some option as a basis and make it public,” Valeriy Tkachev explained.
According to him, the developments concerned stimulating transportation to the ports of the Danube, primarily to the port of Izmail.
The ministry should also consider a proposal to change the tariffs for the transportation of 20-foot containers across the territory of Ukraine.
“That is, the tariffs (for the transportation of goods by rail, — ed.) remain unchanged for now, and the last indexation was carried out in 2022,” Valerii Tkachev concluded.
We will remind, in early June, business urged Ukrzaliznytsia not to increase tariffs for container transportation. At that time, the EBA noted that increasing tariffs could reduce the volume of container transportation by rail and redirect cargo flows to road transport.
