Turkey plans to ban wheat imports
9.05.2023 - 12:00
The Ministry of Economy of Turkey is negotiating a ban on the import of wheat.
The ban is planned to be introduced for the period from June 1 to September 1, writes Latifundist with reference to Atria Brokers. The reason for this decision is to protect local wheat producers during harvest.
A decision is expected around May 14, the day on which the presidential elections are scheduled.
From May 1, 2023, Turkey introduced a 130% import duty on key grain crops. This duty does not apply to the greater part of Ukrainian grain, since Ukraine imports products to Turkey for sale in third countries, and no duty is paid for this.
