Bulgaria calls on partners to support moratorium on attacks in the Black Sea

Bulgaria developed the initiative together with Romania and Turkey after a series of attacks on merchant ships.
Bulgaria, together with Romania, submitted a proposal for a moratorium on drone attacks against civilian vessels in the Black Sea for consideration by EU leaders. Prime Minister Rumen Radev stated this in Brussels before the European Council summit, writes “European Pravda”.
“I count on the solidarity of all our European partners regarding the moratorium we have proposed, aimed at stopping attacks on civilian vessels,” he said.
According to Radev, the call to stop attacks on civilian vessels has already been included in the draft conclusions of the European Council. The proposal was developed together with Romania and Turkey, and was also discussed with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
“This unacceptable aggression against civilian vessels must stop,” the Prime Minister stressed. He also noted that the idea of joint patrolling of the Black Sea by Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey is not new.
At the same time, Sofia does not dare to directly state that Russia is behind the naval attacks – allegedly due to the lack of direct evidence. Instead, Radev stressed the importance of maintaining open diplomatic channels with Moscow in order to “achieve an end to the strikes”.
As USM reported the day before, on the night of October 14 and 15, drones attacked three vessels in Romanian territorial waters.
