Turkey agrees to become a mediator in the evacuation from Ukraine, in addition to 6 Turkish, 38 other ships blocked by Russia since the beginning of the full-scale war.

Ukraine turned to Turkey with a proposal to become an intermediary for the removal from Ukrainian ports of not only 6 Turkish ships blocked since the beginning of the war, but also 38 ships of other foreign ship owners.

Turkey agreed to the proposal, Deputy Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine Yury Vaskov said in an interview with “Interfax-Ukraine” .

“Erdogan spoke about the possibility of the blocked Turkish ships leaving Mykolaiv. It is only about ships that were blocked in ports until February 24, 2022. This requires security guarantees and an intermediary that Turkey is willing to be for its ships. We, for our part, proposed that Turkey act as an intermediary for the unblocking and exit of other vessels. Turkey agreed to this in principle,” Vaskov said.

At the same time, currently the Deputy Minister cannot announce a possible date for the removal of ships from Ukrainian ports. According to him, this is a security issue, and relevant structures are working on it.

We will remind, the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the Russian Federation agreed not to prevent the departure of Turkish ships from the ports of the Mykolaiv region.
