Ukraine exported 5.3 million tons of agricultural products in June

In June 2023, Ukraine managed to export 5.3 million tons of agricultural products, which is 3% more than in May.

Despite the 3% increase, total exports still remain low, noted the Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business (UCAB).

“The main problematic export channel was the grain corridor.” Taking into account the significant export potential of the ports of the Odesa region, the work of the “grain corridor” was not full-fledged, since only 2 million tons of agricultural products were exported through this channel,” said the UCAB.

Analysts also added that there are also occasional difficulties and delays at the borders with Western countries, which take time to resolve. In general, the structure of exports of agricultural products in June 2023 was as follows:

• grain crops: 3.8 million tons (corn – 61%, wheat – 37%, barley – 2%). Growth compared to last month: +8%;

• oil crops – 241.7 thousand tons (soybeans – 88%, sunflower seeds – 7% and rapeseed – 4%). Fall: -24%.

• vegetable oils – 513.5 thousand tons (sunflower oil – 93%, soybean oil – 6%). Growth: +6%.

• cakes after extraction of vegetable oils – 435,000 tons (sunflower – 93%, soybean – 6%, rapeseed – 2%). Fall: -2%.

UCAB added that the new marketing year has already started for Ukrainian farmers who have started harvesting winter crops (barley, wheat and rapeseed). Therefore, it is now extremely necessary to resolve all issues related to export.

“First of all, this is the restoration of free shipping, which will allow to significantly reduce logistics costs and allow the Ukrainian agricultural sector to function more fully, providing Ukraine and the world with food.” – summed up in UCAB.
