Humenyuk: the mine danger on the Odesa coast has not gone away
There are many cases of detonation of explosive objects in the sea near the Odesa coast.
“The mine danger has not gone anywhere. Unfortunately, it only got worse. As a result of the flood caused by the explosion of the Kakhovska HPP, the flow of water brought many “dangerous surprises”. Part of what was brought by the high water is still floating, or lies at the bottom and may have been lifted by storms,” explained Natalya Humenyuk, head of the press center of the Southern Guard and Defense Forces.
Since the beginning of 2023, the detonation of 32 mines in the waters of the Black Sea has been recorded in Odesa and Mykolaiv regions. According to Humenyuk, river mines have also entered the waters of the Black Sea.
“It is very difficult to count the number of such river mines that were detonated, but two cases have already been accurately recorded. That is, they were detected by observation posts, these are arbitrary detonations of mines,” Humenyuk said.
