The European Commission plans to increase the import of Ukrainian grain through “corridors of solidarity”

The European Commission intends to improve the work of the Joint Coordination Group in order to increase grain exports from Ukraine.

The European Commission is considering possibilities for increasing the capacity of “solidarity corridors”. In particular, they discussed alternative ways and financial opportunities for improving transport connections. This was stated by Miriam Ferrer, spokeswoman for the European Commission on Agriculture and Trade, Ukrinform reports.

“It is very important for us to continue to show full support and solidarity with Ukraine so that it can continue to trade with the world and support global food security,” Ferrer said.

In particular, the working group of the European Commission, with the participation of members of the team of the Executive Vice President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, will visit Romania to assess the possibility of increasing the throughput capacity of Romanian ports to 4 million tons of Ukrainian grain per month.

As a reminder, on September 15, the deadline for restrictions on the import of wheat, corn, sunflower seeds and rapeseed from Ukraine to the countries of Eastern Europe expires. At the same time, Poland and Hungary plan to introduce their own restrictions on Ukrainian grain in order to support the competitiveness of local farmers.
