Poland will not cancel the embargo on Ukrainian grain even after withdrawing the complaint to the WTO

Poland will not cancel the ban on the import of Ukrainian products, even if Ukraine withdraws its complaint from the World Trade Organization.

If Ukraine withdraws its complaint from the WTO, Poland will still continue the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain. This was stated by the representative of the Polish government, Piotr Mueller, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

According to him, the embargo will remain in place as long as there is a risk that Ukrainian grain flows will negatively affect the local agricultural market.

Mueller emphasized that Poland is ready for negotiations with Ukraine, but “currently the situation is such that the embargo remains.”

According to the representative of the Polish government, withdrawing the complaint from the WTO would be a good gesture, which would show that Ukraine wants partnership negotiations, and not procedural communication.

Also, Poland is not satisfied with the proposals of the Ukrainian side regarding the settlement of the situation.

“Actually, Ukraine wants these goods to be imported on the basis of licenses, but without defining clear limits. This could destabilize our market again,” Muller commented.

Previously, USM reported that Poland is ready for future negotiations with Ukraine regarding grain imports, in case Ukraine withdraws its complaint to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

In turn, the Ukrainian Ministry of Economy explained the conditions under which they are ready to cancel the lawsuit against the three neighboring countries.
