Port of Constanta increases transshipment thanks to Ukrainian agricultural products
The Romanian port of Constanta set a grain export record thanks to a sharp increase in supplies from Ukraine.
The share of Ukrainian grain was 40% of the port’s total transshipment volume, writes Elevatorist. The publication reports that in January-November the port shipped 32.6 million tons of grain, the previous annual record was a little over 25 million tons.
Ukrainian grain amounted to 13 million tons, that is, approximately 40% of the total transshipment volume. Last year, the volume of overloaded agricultural products from Ukraine amounted to 8.6 million tons.
Romania is said to be aiming to increase its transit capacity for Ukrainian grain to 4 million tonnes per month, and is currently upgrading rail and road infrastructure in and around the port with EU funding. Moldova, which borders Romania and Ukraine, is also upgrading checkpoints and rail infrastructure to facilitate transit.
