The Ukrainian agricultural sector suffered more than $80 billion in direct damages and losses


The Ukrainian agricultural sector suffered more than 80 billion dollars in direct damages and losses as a result of Russian aggression.

As of December 31, 2023, the agricultural sector of Ukraine has suffered more than $80 billion in direct losses and losses due to the war, «Інтерфакс-Україна». Interfax-Ukraine reports.

According to the Center for Food and Land Use Research (KSE Agrocenter) of the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE), the value of destroyed assets reached $10.3 billion, which is 18% more than was estimated in April 2023.

The most loss-making category is agricultural machinery – $5.8 billion was damaged and destroyed. 181,000 units were partially or completely damaged.

Losses from the theft or destruction of already produced products were estimated at $1.97 billion. Losses due to damage to granaries – $1.8 billion, losses to perennial crops – $398 million, animal husbandry – $254 million, aquaculture and fishing – $35 million.

Losses, which include lost income for agricultural producers and increased production costs, more than doubled (compared to the previous review) and amounted to $69.8 billion.

Analysts have estimated the total needs for reconstruction and restoration over the next 10 years at $56 billion.

As previously reported by USM, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will provide up to UAH 270 million in co-financing for the development of Ukrainian elevator capacities.
