All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council: There is potential to more actively use the ports of Ukraine in 2024/25 MY

This season, the total export of grain from Ukraine is about 50 million tons. In the next MY, according to the expert, more active use of ports is possible.

This became known during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform.

The deputy chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, Denys Marchuk, emphasized that the cultivated potential this year is estimated at approximately 74-76 million tons of grain and oil crops.

“This is more than enough for domestic consumption. The main amount will be exported. We can also hope for an improvement in the price of the grain group as a result of cheaper transit and insurance,” said the Deputy Chairman of the Council, Denys Marchuk.

He also reminded that thanks to the Armed Forces, which guaranteed security in the Black Sea, the export potential increased from tens of thousands of tons in August 2022 to 6.2 million tons in April 2024.

The expert emphasized that currently the largest share of Ukrainian agricultural products is exported through the sea corridor. Yes, the ports of Great Odesa account for about 85% of all agricultural exports, another 15% are the Danube, and about 5% are railways and roads.

“The new marketing season – 2024/25 – will start in July, there is potential to use the ports more actively. Let’s hope that the issue of security will be on the agenda in the negotiations that will take place in Switzerland. In particular, one of the block issues will be food security in the world, of which Ukraine acts as a guarantor. This includes the provision of weapons that are necessary to fulfill the obligations assumed, as well as the finances that are needed to guarantee the security of the port infrastructure,” Denys Marchuk concluded.

We will remind you that from June 5, new rules for duty-free trade in agricultural products with the EU also entered into force.
