Sybiha: Ukraine needs EU support for the work of the Solidarity Paths and the Danube Corridor

Ukraine needs urgent support from the European Union to ensure the smooth operation of the Solidarity Routes and to increase the capacity of the Danube Corridor.

This was stated by Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga during a telephone conversation with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kallas, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.

The Minister emphasized that the Russian Federation is trying to turn the Black Sea into a zone of fear, destabilization and coercion.

“Since the beginning of July alone, 31 merchant ships have been attacked. These are targeted attacks on civilian shipping, freedom of navigation and food security of millions of people in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America,” Andriy Sybiha emphasized.

In particular, they discussed preparations for all possible scenarios for the development of the situation.

The Foreign Minister noted that Ukraine needs urgent EU support to ensure the “Lanes of Solidarity” and to increase the throughput capacity of the Danube Corridor.

The European Commission website indicates that since May 2022, the Lanes of Solidarity have allowed Ukraine to export almost 220 million tons of goods, including almost 93 million tons of grain, oilseeds and related products.

The Solidarity Routes have allowed Ukraine to import approximately 104 million tons of goods it needs: from military and humanitarian aid to fuel and other products.

The total value of trade through the Lanes of Solidarity is estimated at approximately 282 billion euros, including approximately 208 billion euros of imports to Ukraine.
