North Korea sent more than 13,000 containers of weapons to Russia

North Korea sent more than 13,000 transport containers to the Russian Federation that could carry weapons.

North Korea has started delivering these cargoes to Russia since mid-2022 amid deepening bilateral military ties between the two states, Yonhap reported.

According to a report by the Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of South Korea, North Korea delivered cargo to Russia that could contain more than 6 million 152 mm artillery shells. For this, North Korea used its eastern port of Najin, through which it transferred military cargo for about two years.

The latter figure has doubled since February, when Defense Minister Shin Won Sik told reporters that North Korea had sent about 6,700 containers to the Russian Federation.

South Korea and the United States are jointly monitoring the possibility of sending North Korean missiles to Russia, referring to the characteristics of the ammunition fired by Russia over Ukraine.

The military suspects that North Korea may have supplied Russia with 122 mm artillery shells, mobile anti-aircraft missiles and anti-tank missiles, etc.

In exchange for supporting North Korea in the field of weapons, Russia can provide technological assistance in the development of North Korea’s missile and espionage programs.

Previously, USM reported that South Korea imposed sanctions against Russian and North Korean vessels.
