Railway container transportation reached pre-war levels


The majority of container cargo is exported, and the main nomenclature of cargo transported in containers is grain.

Container transportation by railway shows a recovery to the level of pre-war volumes. This was reported by Valery Tkachev, a representative of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC.

In the first nine months of 2024, containerized cargo traffic increased by 47% compared to the same period last year, reaching 197,897 TEU. This indicator is the highest in the last seven years and exceeds the result for the peak year 2021 by 7%.

In particular, 62% of all container transportation is exported. The main nomenclature of goods transported in containers is grain – their share is 44% of the total volume of transportation.

In total, as of October 1, Ukrzaliznytsia transported 533 intermodal trains, of which 82 were international.
