Ukraine wants to increase the supply of agricultural products within the framework of Grain from Ukraine
The expansion of the humanitarian initiative Grain from Ukraine was discussed with representatives of the UN World Food Program.
This was reported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
Minister of Agrarian Policy Vitaliy Koval met with representatives of the UN World Food Program headed by its Plenipotentiary Representative and Director in Ukraine Richard Reagan.
The parties discussed further cooperation, in particular regarding the implementation of the humanitarian initiative Grain from Ukraine.
According to the minister, Ukraine wants to increase the supply of its products, in particular to African countries. And also to expand the list of agricultural products that are supplied – to supply ready-made food that can be stored, in particular to schools for feeding children.
“Despite the full-scale invasion of Russia, Ukraine proved its status as a reliable guarantor of food security. Therefore, for Ukraine, which is at war, it is especially important to help those people in other countries who are also in a crisis situation with food. It is important for us to expand the implementation of the presidential initiative. Among the potential countries to which Ukraine can supply food are the countries of Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East and Africa,” noted Vitaliy Koval.
The minister also appealed to Richard Reagan to support the opening of food hubs on the African continent.
In addition, he offered to help farmers from the frontline areas. In particular, he suggested that WFP buy crops from farmers, as they do not have warehouses to store grain due to the infrastructure destroyed by the enemy. In this way, partners will support both farmers and those to whom their products will be supplied.
It should be noted that within the framework of Grain from Ukraine, 12 vessels with agricultural products (wheat, flour, oil) were sent to Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Yemen, Nigeria, Sudan, Palestine, Malawi, Mozambique, Djibouti, Mauritania, DRC.
As a reminder, in August of this year, approximately 23,000 tons of Ukrainian corn were sent to Mozambique and Malawi under Grain from Ukraine.
