South Korea allocates $6 million to support Grain from Ukraine
South Korea plans to provide humanitarian aid worth $6 million under the Grain from Ukraine initiative.
The country’s plans to allocate funds were announced by South Korean Second Vice Foreign Minister Kang In-soon at a meeting of the initiative on Sunday, November 24, Yonhap reports.
Kang also stressed South Korea’s readiness to strengthen global cooperation in connection with the global food crisis.
South Korea’s decision coincides with the Grain from Ukraine food security conference, at which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukrainian grain has saved 20 million people from hunger.
“Overall, during the operation of Grain from Ukraine, 20 million people have already been saved from hunger. And this is only thanks to our humanitarian program alone. In total, Ukrainian food exports provide food for 400 million people in a hundred countries around the world. Ukraine is one of the world’s largest donors to food security,” Zelenskyy noted.
Zelenskyy recalled that the full-scale Russian invasion began, in particular, with the blockade of Ukrainian ports by the Russian fleet.
“Russia understood very well what the consequences would be. They wanted this – they wanted a terrible result for the whole world, not only for Ukraine. They wanted food prices in the world to increase. This is not just a desire for more money and profits, but it is primarily about plans. If they can arrange a food disaster, then they can subjugate a people who depend on food imports,” the President of Ukraine noted.
He emphasized that the issue of food prices is extremely sensitive for most people in Africa and a significant number of people in Asia, Europe and America.
Let us recall that the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian initiative was launched in 2022. More than 30 countries and international organizations have already joined Ukraine in implementing this initiative. By the end of 2023 alone, more than 170 thousand tons of grain were delivered to countries with a difficult food situation.
Earlier, we reported that Russia had already attacked 321 infrastructure facilities in Ukrainian ports.
