€93 million to be invested in the Port of Gdansk to increase transshipment capacity
Investments in the Port of Gdansk in the amount of 93 million euros will provide the port with additional annual grain handling capacity.
This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development of Poland.
In the Port of Gdansk, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced plans for a new grain terminal. In particular, 400 million zlotys (approximately 93 million euros) will be invested in the port.
One of the leading grain handling companies in the Port of Gdansk, Port Gdański Eksploatacja (PGE), is investing in nine additional grain warehouses. Thus, the company will increase its storage capacity fivefold – to 152 thousand tons per year. At the same time, the company’s grain handling capacity will increase from 0.7 million tons to 2.9 million tons per year.
Donald Tusk emphasized that this was the result of expectations after the uncontrolled influx of grain from Ukraine.
“One of the expectations was that a grain terminal should be created in Poland, but one that would be at the disposal of the Polish state,” the Polish Prime Minister noted.
Recall that at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the port of Gdansk became an important link for the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products. Thus, in 2022, grain transshipment in Gdansk was 19% more than in 2021.
Later, it became known that the port was planned to be modernized due to an increase in the volume of transshipment of Ukrainian grain.
