Odesa Port Plant disconnected from the power grid due to debts
Odessa Port Plant had its electricity cut off due to debts to DTEK, which led to the shutdown of treatment facilities in Pivdenne.
Due to the Odesa Port Plant’s electricity debt, DTEK temporarily disconnected the company from the network. This is reported by Suspilne.
The power outage caused the shutdown of the treatment facilities in the city of Pivdenne, which could have led to an environmental disaster, said Volodymyr Novatskyi, the mayor of Pivdenne.
According to him, this situation left Pivdenne without water for several hours. However, DTEK’s power engineers quickly switched on the power supply, which allowed the treatment facilities to resume operation.
As the mayor noted, the Plant’s debts to DTEK had been accumulating for a long time. In addition, the company has debts not only for electricity, but also for gas and heat.
To avoid similar situations in the future, the city authorities plan to appeal to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the State Property Fund with the initiative to transfer the treatment facilities to the communal property of the Pivdenne urban territorial community.
“This issue is critically important for the life of the city. Without treatment facilities, Pivdenne cannot exist. This is even more important than electricity or water,” Novatskyi emphasized.
According to him, 15 years ago, during the preparation for the privatization of the Odesa Port Plant, he raised the issue of transferring the treatment facilities to the city. However, the argument against it at that time was that they are part of the technological process of the plant and cannot be separated.
Currently, DTEK has agreed not to disconnect the power supply to the treatment facilities, but a long-term solution to the problem has not yet been found.
Earlier, USM wrote that the prosecutor’s office had completed the investigation into the embezzlement of funds from the UMCC and the Odesa Port Plant.
