Shipping Administration and EMSA discussed proposals to assist Ukraine

On Thursday, April 3, an online meeting of representatives of the Shipping Administration and the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) took place.
This was reported by the Acting Head of the Shipping Administration Mykola Kravchuk.
“I was pleased to meet the agency team. We discussed how the project “Strengthening Environmental Sustainability and Maritime Safety for the Coastal States of the Black and Caspian Seas” (BCSEA II) is currently being implemented,” the official said.
He also provided proposals for assistance to Ukraine for 2026, including:
— new training programs for maritime specialists;
— continued digitalization of the Administration’s services;
— assistance in signing Memoranda on the recognition of diplomas/certificates of seafarers’ specialist qualifications.
In particular, the parties agreed to additionally and as a priority work on improving Ukraine’s implementation of flag state obligations and the implementation of IMO instruments, which requires the development of a Maritime Strategy.
As a reminder, at the end of 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the implementation plan for the Maritime Security Strategy of Ukraine.
Reference. The BCSEA II project is aimed at improving shipping safety standards and protecting the marine environment. It provides technical support, training of Ukrainian specialists, and access to advanced services provided by EMSA.
