Covered with a tarpaulin: a bulk carrier from the “black list” docked in Sevastopol

A bulk carrier transporting looted grain from occupied Berdyansk was found in the Southern Bay of Sevastopol.

The vessel “Captain Mironov” (IMO 9077563, MMSI 273383610) under the flag of the Russian Federation has moored in the Southern Bay of occupied Sevastopol. This is reported by the “Crimean Wind”.

The bulk carrier is standing near berth No. 144 — next to the city’s tourist attraction, Grafskaya Prystan. The invaders covered the nameplate on the left side of the vessel with a tarpaulin, presumably for camouflage. The AIS system is also turned off — the last location of the bulk carrier was recorded on April 2 in the port of Trabzon (Turkey).

In 2023–2024, the Center for Investigative Journalism repeatedly recorded this vessel in the port of occupied Berdyansk. It was identified as one of the transport vessels involved in the export of Ukrainian grain, which the Russian occupation administration exports through Crimea.

These shipments are part of illegal schemes for the export of agricultural products from the occupied territories. Since official trade with the occupied Crimea is prohibited, Russian shipowners often turn off AIS systems, change the names of the vessels or hide their names to complicate monitoring.

The route of the “Captain Mironov” usually ran between the ports of Crimea (in particular Sevastopol and Feodosia), occupied Berdyansk and the ports of Turkey, where the Russians delivered the looted products.

The day before, USM wrote that the Russian Federation exports up to 60 thousand tons of Ukrainian coal from the port of Mariupol every month.
