Danish intelligence: Russian warships repeatedly resorted to provocations in the Baltic Sea

Russian ships have repeatedly aimed weapons at Danish naval vessels and disrupted navigation systems in the Danish Straits.

This was reported by the Danish Defense Intelligence Service, writes Reuters.

The country’s intelligence officers noted that such incidents pose a risk of escalation. According to the director of the Danish Defense Intelligence Service, Thomas Arenkil, the military has observed several cases in the Danish Straits when Danish air force helicopters and naval vessels were “attacked by surveillance radars and physically directed at them by weapons from Russian warships.”

According to him, while passing through the straits, the Russian ships deliberately followed courses that could lead to a collision with Danish ships.

Arenkil also reported that one of the Russian warships has been anchored in Danish waters for more than a week. This may indicate Moscow’s intention to intervene if Denmark tries to limit the activities of the so-called “shadow fleet”.

In addition, intelligence has recorded that Russian ships used sonar and GPS jamming equipment while passing through the straits. The agency added that in at least one case they interfered with signals and caused significant GPS disruptions in Denmark.

Earlier, USM reported that a tanker detained on suspicion of launching drones over Denmark has continued its voyage.
