Russian port operator reports large-scale cyberattack

Russia’s Port Alliance says its IT infrastructure was hit by a three-day DDoS attack and attempted hacking.

The Russian group Port Alliance, which operates a network of sea cargo terminals, said its systems were targeted by foreign hackers over a three-day period, Reuters reported.

The company said the attack included a distributed DDoS attack and an attempted direct hacking.

Port Alliance said in a statement that critical elements of its digital infrastructure “were attacked with the aim of disrupting export shipments” of coal and mineral fertilizers through terminals in the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, the Far East and the Arctic regions.

The company said the cyberattack was “successfully repelled” and that operations were not affected.

Port Alliance operates cargo terminals in five Russian ports.

USM previously reported that hackers had disabled communications on 116 Iranian vessels.
