US must seize Russian tankers if peace talks break down, says Senator Graham

Graham stressed that Washington “will not give up trying to lure Putin to the negotiating table,” but another rejection of compromises should have consequences.

If Russia again refuses peace agreements, the United States should seize tankers with Russian oil and transfer Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine. This was stated by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, Liga.net reports.

The senator hopes that US President Donald Trump will sign the bill he prepared with the support of 85 co-authors.

Among the key steps proposed by Graham:

• impose tariffs on countries such as China, which buy cheap Russian oil;

• declare Russia a state sponsor of terrorism for the kidnapping of 20,000 Ukrainian children;

• seize ships transporting sanctioned Russian oil, as is done in relation to Venezuela.

Separately, the senator stressed the need to “change the rules of the game” in the event of a breakdown in negotiations and provide Ukraine with Tomahawks to strike drone and missile production sites in the Russian Federation. According to him, this will increase pressure on Russian military infrastructure and reduce the Kremlin’s ability to continue its aggression.

Meanwhile, the day before, Sweden detained a Russian ship on suspicion of transporting weapons.
