14 European countries have issued warnings for the “shadow fleet”

A group of 14 European countries has issued an open warning to tankers of the “shadow fleet” in the Baltic and North Seas.

The tankers of the “shadow fleet” of the Russian Federation have received warnings from 14 European countries, Bloomberg reports, citing a joint statement.

Among the countries that have issued the warning are Sweden, France, Germany and the United Kingdom. The signatories stressed that ships can only sail in the waters of these countries under the flag of one state and must have valid safety and insurance documentation.

Vessels that ignore these requirements will be considered as not belonging to any state. Thus, European countries can increase their ability to interfere with the activities of the “shadow fleet”.

The 14 countries also separately accused Russia of interfering in satellite positioning and navigation systems, which threatens international shipping.

USM previously reported that GMS is submitting a request to purchase “shadow fleet” tankers for further disposal.
