An oil slick was again recorded on the coast of the Odesa region

Two months after the Russian attack on the port infrastructure, a massive release of polymerized vegetable oil was recorded in the Tuzlivski Limany National Park.
This was reported by Ivan Rusev, a doctor of biological sciences and an employee of the Tuzlivski Limany National Park.
According to him, the cause was a powerful storm that occurred on February 6. The waves carried the remains of sunflower oil onto the sandbank, which had fallen into the sea back in December 2025 after the Russian attack on the terminals in the Pivdennyi port.
“The main part of it polymerized and settled on the benthic (bottom) of the Odesa Bay. But its remains are still traveling along the Black Sea and polluting the shores far from the accident site,” explained Ivan Rusev.
According to the results of the survey conducted on February 8, the area of polluted areas on the sandbank of the park is 10,000 sq. m.
As previously reported by USM, over 1,000 birds died due to an oil spill following the Russian attack on the port of Pivdennyi.
