The Supreme Court of Ukraine approved the agreement regarding the Odesa Port Plant: over UAH 77 million will be returned to the state

The High Anti-Corruption Court has approved a plea agreement in the corruption case at the Odesa Port Plant.

This concerns a 2015 scheme — selling the plant’s products at prices below market prices, the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office reported.

Thus, the state will be fully compensated for UAH 77,537,184 in damages. The defendants will direct another UAH 50 million to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine through the UNITED24 fundraising platform. In addition, the defendants fully admitted their guilt and agreed to an agreed sentence.

The court sentenced:

• People’s Deputy of Ukraine of the VIII convocation — a fine of three hundred tax-free minimum incomes of citizens;

• Former Deputy Director and former Head of the Odesa Port Plant Department — 3 years in prison, a ban on holding positions (1 year) and a fine;

• co-organizers of the scheme (former member of the board of the Odesa Port Plant and owner of the intermediary company) — 3 years of imprisonment, a ban on holding positions (1 year) and a fine.

Some of the accused were released from punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations. Others received a probationary period of two years.

More than 10 years have passed since the crime, some of the defendants are abroad (Austria, Great Britain), extradition requests for them were not satisfied. At the same time, three of the accused already had the right to close the case due to the statute of limitations.

Despite all these circumstances, as part of the agreement, they refused to close the proceedings, pleaded guilty and undertook to compensate for losses and support the army, the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office said.

Earlier, USM reported that NABU and Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office exposed a scheme to seize grain worth UAH 776 million in the state-owned State Food and Grain Corporation of Ukraine.
