The International Maritime Organization officially launched the “IMO for Ukraine” project: what is known

The “IMO for Ukraine” initiative provides practical support in the field of shipping safety, as well as the restoration and modernization of maritime infrastructure.
This was reported by the Ministry for Development of Communites and Territories of Ukraine.
During a working visit to London, the Ukrainian delegation, led by Deputy Minister Andriy Kashuba, took part in a number of events of the International Maritime Organization and held bilateral meetings with the IMO leadership and delegations of member states.
The main topics of the negotiations were: shipping safety, countering the “shadow fleet” of the Russian Federation and technical assistance to Ukraine.
In particular, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) officially launched the “IMO for Ukraine” project. One of the key components of the project will be a comprehensive assessment of the damage caused to the maritime sector of Ukraine as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation, as well as the formation of a list of priority needs. This includes, in particular, recording damage to port infrastructure, shipping safety systems and the marine environment. This will allow to confirm at the international level the fact of causing damage by Russia in the maritime sphere and will create a basis for further technical and financial support to Ukraine.
“The launch of the “IMO for Ukraine” project is a transition from political support to specific practical actions. We expect that this initiative will significantly strengthen Ukraine’s capabilities in the field of shipping security and will contribute to the restoration of the maritime industry in the context of ongoing aggression,” said Andriy Kashuba.
Separately, the project provides for the digitalization of port processes through the implementation of the Maritime Single Window — a single maritime window for electronic exchange of information between vessels and state authorities during the entry of vessels into ports, their stay and exit. Connection to the MSW will make it possible to digitalize port and administrative procedures, increase their transparency and efficiency, as well as create a modern system for responding to security and environmental threats according to international standards.
Recall that Ukraine and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) recently discussed the issue of countering the “shadow fleet” and strengthening the security of international shipping.
