Ukrainian barley loses in price: Romanian grain of the new harvest enters the market cheaper

Romanian barley is currently more competitive than Ukrainian grain on foreign markets ahead of the start of the new export season.
Romanian new-crop barley currently looks more attractive to buyers compared to Ukrainian due to lower prices. This is reported by ASAP Agri.
Thus, Romanian barley for delivery in July is offered at a price of about 191 euros per ton on a FOB Constanta basis. In dollar terms, this is approximately 225 dollars per ton.
At the same time, Ukrainian new-crop barley for July deliveries is currently quoted at about 230 dollars per ton on a FOB POC basis.
“Romanian barley of the new crop looks more attractive compared to Ukrainian, which is currently offered at a price of about $ 230 / ton FOB POC with July deliveries,” said Daria Marchenko, trade advisor at ASAP Agri and broker at Atria Brokers.
According to the European Commission, in 2026 Romania can harvest about 3 million tons of barley. Although this is less than last year, the projected harvest will still exceed the average production in the country.
At the same time, USM wrote that on the morning of May 13, searches were conducted in the port of Constanta, which are related to a large-scale scheme worth 6 million euros.
