Since the beginning of the year, Russia has carried out over 500 strikes on the railway

During the first quarter of 2026 alone, the number of attacks approached half the number of attacks on railway infrastructure in the entire year 2025.
In the first quarter of 2026, Russia carried out 541 attacks on the railway infrastructure and rolling stock of Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia.
Thus, since the beginning of 2026, the Russians have damaged 1,718 railway facilities and injured 28 railway workers.
Such attacks on infrastructure, a reduction in freight transportation, and a sharp increase in the cost of fuel and electricity led to losses of about UAH 7.9 billion in the first three months of the year.
Earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia predicted that freight rail transportation could become unprofitable for the first time this year.
As of now, the queue of wagons in the direction of ports is decreasing despite the overall growth in rail exports.
