The Environmental Inspectorate checks the condition of the water area after the ship sank in Odesa

No oil pollution of the sea was detected after the GOLDEN LEO vessel sank near Odesa.
The State Environmental Inspectorate did not confirm the spill of oil products after the GOLDEN LEO vessel sank.
On July 27, the State Environmental Inspectorate of the South-Western District received information about the sinking of the GOLDEN LEO vessel (flag of Guinea-Bissau) in the area of the Lanzheron PTS as a result of an air attack by the Russian Federation. Initial reports also mentioned the possible appearance of an oily spot on the sea surface.
After receiving the report, the inspectorate began response measures and established interaction with the State Environmental Protection Agency of Ukraine, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian Scientific Center for Marine Ecology.
According to operational information as of 13:30 on July 27, no signs of oil pollution of the sea area in the area where the vessel sank were recorded.
According to preliminary data, the stain observed on the sea surface was formed due to corn husks from the cargo of the sunken ship getting into the water.
At the same time, the inspectorate emphasized that the situation remains under control. After the ships are sunk, there is a risk of delayed leakage of fuel and lubricants or other technical fluids due to damage to the hull, the influence of weather conditions, or the gradual destruction of structures under water.
Currently, the inspectorate continues to monitor the state of the water area together with specialized services and scientific institutions and assures that it is ready to respond promptly in case of any changes.
