Zelenskyy warned of global food crisis due to blocking of the Black Sea

Blocking shipping in the Black Sea due to Russian aggression could cause a global food crisis and hit countries dependent on grain imports.

According to Zelenskyy, the food corridor in the Black Sea is actually blocked from both the Ukrainian and Russian sides. He has already discussed the situation with representatives of Egypt, India, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

The President noted that for Ukraine, restricting sea exports will mean a drop in domestic grain prices due to more expensive logistics and more complicated supply routes.

At the same time, the greatest risks, according to him, arise for countries that are largely dependent on food imports from the Black Sea region.

“This will be Hormuz, only agro,” Zelenskyy said, comparing the possible consequences of blocking Black Sea exports with disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The President also proposed working separately on agreements on food security and an energy truce, even if a complete cessation of the war cannot be achieved in the near future.
