Ukraine imposes sanctions against 20 vessels of the Russian “shadow fleet”

The sanctions list also includes Russian military-industrial complex enterprises and individuals who spread propaganda and justify the aggression of the Russian Federation.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed three decrees, which put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to apply sanctions against vessels of the Russian “shadow fleet”, enterprises and individuals associated with the state corporation Rostec, as well as pro-Russian propagandists.

The sanctions list includes 20 sea vessels that Russia uses to transport oil, petroleum products and liquefied gas. According to the Ukrainian side, these tankers deliver raw materials from Russian ports to India, Egypt and Turkey.

The vessels fly the flags of Liberia, the Marshall Islands, Sierra Leone, Barbados and Palau. Revenues from energy exports remain one of the key sources of financing Russia’s war against Ukraine.

In a separate decision, sanctions were imposed against 29 Russian citizens and 29 Russian companies. Among them are companies involved in the supply of high-precision industrial equipment, electronics, and components for the production of missiles and drones.

The restrictions also apply to manufacturers of dual-use goods, research organizations that develop technical documentation for the Russian military-industrial complex, and an educational institution that trains specialists for the enterprises of the Kalashnikov concern.

The sanctions also include companies that design solutions and supply high-tech equipment for the Russian military-industrial complex, as well as IT companies that develop and maintain software for encrypting information, collecting and managing databases.

Rostec is the industrial core of the Russian military machine. The corporation’s enterprises provide up to 80% of the weapons and military equipment for the war against Ukraine and produce, in particular, Iskander and Kinzhal missiles, strike drones and critical components for UAVs, with which Russia attacks Ukraine,” emphasized Vladyslav Vlasyuk, the Presidential Commissioner for Sanctions Policy.

The third decree imposed restrictions on ten citizens of Russia and Ukraine, whom the Ukrainian authorities accuse of spreading disinformation and Russian propaganda, as well as supporting the Kremlin’s aggressive policy. Among them is the former press secretary of the President of Ukraine, Yulia Mendel.

Ukraine plans to transfer information about the new sanctions to international partners for their synchronization in other jurisdictions. Earlier, USM reported that Albania did not allow a tanker of the Russian “shadow fleet” to enter the port of Durres.
