In the Odesa region, the Border Guard rescued sailors from a ship attacked by a Russian drone (video)

In the Odesa region, the Border Guard evacuated the crew of a civilian vessel after a Russian drone hit it.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported this.

In the Black Sea, a Russian drone hit a civilian vessel that was heading after leaving one of the Ukrainian ports. There were 16 crew members on board. The captain died as a result of the attack, and the vessel suffered significant damage and caught fire.

The Maritime Guard of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine received information about the damage to the civilian vessel at night. Border Guard boats were immediately sent to the area of ​​the incident to conduct a search and rescue operation.

At the time of the arrival of the border guard sailors, a fire was ongoing on the vessel. The fire damaged part of the superstructure, and heavy smoke and high temperatures significantly complicated rescue operations. In addition, the threat of repeated attacks remained.

Despite the dangerous conditions, the border guards began evacuating people. As a result of the operation, 15 crew members were evacuated from the vessel.

The ship’s captain died as a result of the impact. Due to heavy smoke and high temperatures at the time of the main evacuation, it was impossible to remove the body of the deceased from the vessel.

The Maritime Guard delivered the rescued crew members to the nearest safe port. There, the sailors were examined by doctors.

The Russian attack once again created an immediate threat to civilian sailors who were in the Black Sea. In such conditions, the Maritime Guard of the State Border Guard Service continues to respond to distress signals and conduct search and rescue operations.

As a reminder, on the night of September 23, the Russians struck a cargo ship under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda in the Black Sea.
