Sulina Canal closed due to bad weather, queue of ships grows again

The Sulina Canal remains closed to navigation due to bad weather, and about 70 vessels have accumulated in the roadstead.
This was reported by Avalon Shipping Operations Manager Kateryna Kononenko.
According to her, navigation through Sulina was stopped on September 26. The resumption of traffic on the Danube is expected no earlier than October 2.
In parallel, the situation with the water level is worsening. There is no official notification yet, but agents have already received verbal warnings about new permissible drafts.
On the Sulina – 44th mile section, it is 7 m, from the 44th mile to Reni, Giurgiulesti and Galati – 6.7 m, and on the Galati – Breila section – 6.4 m.
According to Kononenko, this creates additional problems for vessels that are already chartered or loaded and are waiting to leave Reni, as well as for those that have already arrived in Sulina for loading.
It was previously reported that the commission in Sulina will begin vessel registration an hour earlier.
