Another ship attacked in the Black Sea: search continues for missing sailors, including Ukrainians

On the morning of October 23, near Constanta, the Khoryv (IMO:8138712) sent a distress signal, reporting a drone attack and a fire on board.

The vessel was attacked in the Black Sea (approximately 13 nautical miles from Constanta, Romania), the Romanian publication Digi24 reports.

As of 11:40, representatives of the Romanian Navy reported that a large-scale search and rescue operation was underway in the Black Sea.

“The vessel was carrying a crew of 13 members: 10 citizens of Ukraine and 3 citizens of Azerbaijan,” the report says.

According to preliminary data, nine of them were rescued, three are missing, and one died.

As previously reported by USM, the European Parliament called on the EU to strengthen the protection of merchant shipping in the Black Sea. In particular, the possibility of deploying a naval operation in the Black Sea was discussed after the recent attacks on civilian vessels near Romania and Bulgaria.
