Nearly 300 civilian vessels damaged or destroyed in Russian attacks in Ukraine

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 297 civilian vessels and over 1,200 port infrastructure facilities have been damaged or destroyed.

This was reported by the Ministry of Reconstruction, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine.

According to the department, since the beginning of the full-scale war, 1,223 port infrastructure facilities and 297 civilian vessels have been damaged or destroyed as a result of Russian attacks.

The situation has worsened significantly since July 2026 due to the intensification of Russian attacks on the ports of Greater Odessa.

Deputy Minister of Reconstruction, Infrastructure and Transport Anatoly Timenko spoke about the consequences of the shelling during the online discussion of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) “Storm in the Black Sea: Consequences, Escalation and Further Steps”.

According to the official, a joint response of all Black Sea countries to the security threats posed by Russia is necessary to protect civilian shipping.

The ministry also stressed that Russian attacks on ports and ships threaten Ukrainian exports and global food security, as dozens of countries depend on Ukrainian grain supplies.

Ukraine continues diplomatic work with international partners and calls on the Black Sea states and the international maritime community to join forces to protect shipping.

USM previously reported that as of September 2026, according to data from the Ukrainian government, cited by the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF), 274 civilian vessels and 1,173 port infrastructure facilities were damaged as a result of Russian attacks.
