MOL purchased a hydrogen fueled crane

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. and Mitsui E&S Machinery, Ltd. signed an agreement, according to which they will use the loading and unloading port equipment on hydrogen fuel.
As part of the agreement, Shosen Koun Co., Ltd., also part of MOL, has already acquired a new Near Zero Emission (NZE) Transtainer RTG crane (NZE RTG), SeaNews reports. This crane has a smaller diesel engine, which means that its fuel consumption is 20-30% lower than in the standard version. Thus, carbon dioxide emissions are reduced.
The RTG crane was developed by Mitsui E&S Machinery and will operate at the Kobe International Container Terminal (KICT) operated by MOL in Kobe Harbor (Japan).
In the future, the RTG can also run on hydrogen if the diesel generator is replaced with a hydrogen fuel cell. In this case, KICT will become the first Japanese terminal to use such equipment. The NZE RTG is slated to enter service around May 2022.
