Ukraine agreed with Turkey and the UN on the export of grain from the ports of Odesa
Ukraine agreed with Turkey and the UN on the operation of the maritime humanitarian corridor after the Russian Federation’s participation in the grain initiative was suspended.
“Of course, I think that the world as a whole is already used to the aggressive rhetoric of the Russian Federation. I would like to remind you that there are two parallel agreements in the grain initiative. The first is a tripartite document Ukraine–UN–Turkey. Here, from the three subjects, I did not hear that anyone disagreed with anything and wanted to stop the grain initiative. So here we continue as the three of us agreed,” President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said, Ukrinform reports.
“For our part, we are continuing the grain initiative because we understand that we are bringing stability to the food market,” the head of state said.
Zelenskyi expressed hope that international partners will be able to “pacify” representatives of the Russian Federation regarding the suspension of participation in the grain initiative.
We will remind that on July 22 in Istanbul, Ukraine signed an agreement with the UN and Turkey on unblocking the ports of Odesa for the export of agricultural products to the countries of Africa, Asia and Europe. Russia also signed a mirror agreement with Turkey and the UN. To control the work of the “grain” corridor, the countries created a Joint Coordination Center. After a long period of sabotage of the work of the SCC, on October 29, the Russian Federation announced its withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative, allegedly due to a drone attack on the Sevastopol Bay.
Russia’s decision to withdraw from the grain agreement creates risks for food security in the world’s most vulnerable countries, the EU said. Also, NATO calls on Russia to urgently return to the implementation of the concluded agreement, and US President Joe Biden called Russia’s withdrawal from the grain initiative outrageous and emphasized that it will increase hunger in the countries of Asia and Africa.
Previously, USM wrote that after Russia’s withdrawal from the grain agreement, the number of inspection groups of the SCC inspecting ships with Ukrainian agricultural products only increased .
