After a large-scale fire in the port of Moldova, the elevator will be demolished

The investigation showed that the silos at the elevator in the port of Giurgiulesti were installed with numerous violations.

“Technical passports of the cone silos installed in the port indicate that they are not designed to store such materials as granular sunflower meal. As a result, improper operation affected the stability and fire safety of the elevators,” the Technical Supervision Agency of the Republic of Moldova (ATN) said after investigating the fire.

ATN specialists emphasized that the construction and installation of grain tanks was carried out contrary to the provisions of the Transport Code, as well as in the absence of technical conditions for their placement.

In addition, the management company operated without a contract for maintenance of installations, did not keep records of equipment repairs, examinations of dangerous production facilities, etc.

In turn, the Environmental Protection Inspectorate ordered to suspend, starting from January 24, the activities of the Danube Oil Company, which owned the elevator.

As previously reported by USM, on the morning of January 20, the elevator where sunflower meal was stored at the port of Giurgiulesti started working. The fire was extinguished after several days.
