Nord Stream gas pipelines will not be repaired
Nord Stream gas pipelines, damaged by a series of explosions last September, will not be repaired.
The damaged gas pipelines are going to be sealed and preserved, as there are currently no plans to repair or restore them, Reuters reports citing its own sources.
Nord Stream-1 and Nord Stream-2, each consisting of two pipes, were built by russia’s Gazprom to pump 110 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year to Germany through the bottom of the Baltic Sea.
Three pipes were damaged by a series of explosions in September 2022. One of the Nord Stream-2 pipes remained intact.
Gazprom has said it is technically possible to repair the damaged lines, but two sources familiar with the plans said moscow sees little prospect of improving relations with the West in the near future for pipeline repairs to make sense.
Over the past year, Europe has sharply reduced its energy imports from russia, while the exports of state-terrorist Gazprom to the West have almost halved in 2022 to a post-Soviet low of 101 billion cubic meters.
One russian source reported that russia considers the project “buried”. Two others said that while there was no plan to repair the ruptured pipelines, they “will at least be preserved for possible future restoration.”
